I have a bad habit of ignoring the “quick” part of 7 Quick Takes Friday. So today I am challenging myself to finish writing this post in 10 minutes (when I have to leave for Peter’s bus stop) and to write no more than three sentences in a “quick take”.
1
I was busy with “work work” this week. I finished all my grading, figured out my students’ grades for the second term, entered all the grades and comments for report cards, and did all my IEPs (special education plans) for the third term.
2
I have one more week of work left before March Break. Peter and I will both be on vacation for a week, but Don still has school. I’m hoping to take Peter ice skating, but that’s about the extent of my plans.

I got a phone call from Peter’s school this afternoon, the second one this week. On Monday (or was it Tuesday?), another kid bit him on the cheek, leaving a bruise that looked something like a lipstick print. Today another kid pushed him down and he scraped his face on the pavement during recess.

I’m at the point where, when I see the school’s name on the caller ID, I wonder, “What is it this time?” At least I haven’t had to go pick him up from school the last couple times. How do people have time to deal with this kind of stuff when they have multiple kids and work full-time?
5
Lest I sound like I’m complaining, let me state that I do appreciate the school’s efforts to communicate with me. Peter doesn’t tell us much about what happens at school. The day that he was bitten, he didn’t say anything about it until I brought it up, after he’d been home for a couple hours.

The sun has been shining for several days. The snow is starting to retreat. I have hope that spring is coming!

The social worker who is doing our homestudy e-mailed me this week with several questions. I’m glad to know that she is working on our homestudy. I’ll post an update when there’s more news.
I did it!!! Now time to go get Peter from the bus.
Poor Peter! School — the social aspect, at least — is rough
I’m amazed by your quickness! I should try this sometime, because my Quick Takes are sometimes immensely long.
I’m pretty bad with the “quick” part too… they usuall take me more than an hour and sometimes I have to leave and come back to finish my list!
I totally know what you mean about the school on the caller ID. This year I’ve been called to pick up my daughter twice, once because she was sick and once because her finger got slammed in a door. (that one was SO not fun.) And I’ve gotten multiple calls for my son, to report injuries that I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t have told me about or I wouldn’t have understood what he was saying.
Best of luck on the homestudy!!
I know all about the forgetting the wuick part. I do it, too. Good for you sticking with teaching. I gave it up when I had my kiddos and now am planning to homeschool. (I tutor and teach drama still). I have the utmost respect for anyone who can balance the demands of being a whole-hearted teacher and mom as well.
