So you want to know more about me, do you?
Let’s start with the basics. I am happily married; my husband and I celebrated our tenth wedding anniversary in January. I a three-year-old son. I live in Michigan and work as a high school French teacher.
Some less-basic info: I have been a licensed amateur (ham) radio operator since age 13. My husband and I met on the radio when we were in high school and we had an international on-the-air romance (he is from Canada). In addition to Michigan, I have also lived in North Carolina, Ontario, and Alaska (one of the most gorgeous places on Earth). I traveled outside the US and Canada for the first time in the summer of 2007, visiting Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Estonia, Norway, Germany (the Frankfurt airport), the Bahamas, Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, and Mexico. This impressive schedule was accomplished on two separate cruises; I had also never cruised before. I must say that I highly recommend it! Unfortunately, the special circumstances that led to my cruising twice in one summer are not likely to repeat themselves and my financial situation will not likely permit another cruise for at least a few more years. I’ll spare you the details. The take-home message is that cruising is wonderful and a fantastic way to see northern Europe.
My blogroll has probably already given away my interest in adoption. In case you’re wondering, my son was not adopted. However, I plan to adopt at least one child in the future (at this point, my husband will only agree to one, and he insists on adopting a child younger than our son). Whether we adopt from foster care or internationally is yet to be determined–perhaps it will both, eventually. I have a particular interest in adopting an older child, rather than a baby or toddler. Now is not the right time for us to pursue an adoption and it is a difficult wait, but in a couple years we should be in a much better position.
I’m sure I’ll think of more things to say, but this is a start. Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions.
